There’s no need to abandon your yoga or meditation practice while you’re away from home. Bethnal Green, and East London in general, is packed with welcoming wellness centres. Some of them just a few minutes’ walk from The East London Hotel.
Yoga Place E2 offers drop-in sessions all day every day, with a wide range of yoga styles represented, from gentle to full-on ashtanga vinyasa, plus pregnancy and mum and baby yoga. Classes take place at its light and spacious studio a 1-minute walk from Bethnal Green Underground Station. Class passes that run for two or three months are ideal for regular hotel guests. Frequent workshops from experienced teachers offer the chance to take a deeper dive into yoga, meditation and relaxation.
Where better to learn about and practice meditation than the London Buddhist Centre, an oasis of calm in the midst of the buzz of Bethnal Green. Free (donations welcome) meditation classes take place every lunchtime, with additional morning and evening classes at other times. Yoga classes also take place daily, helping you learn the physical techniques to aid meditation and improve flexibility and strength too. For those wanting to learn more about Buddhism itself, classes run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, plus age-specific courses that allow learning with a group of people with similar life experiences.
Stretch provides a more contemporary yoga experience at its beautiful, modern studio on Columbia Road (visit on a Sunday to combine with a trip to the iconic flower market). Classes take elements of traditional yoga practice and combine them with fitness techniques to create something unique. Dynamic yoga is the main focus here, so expect a real workout. There’s a second studio just off Broadway Market, a short walk north of the hotel, offering even more classes.
