You might be an advance planner or the type who leaves all your Christmas shopping to the last minute – either way, it’s hard to beat holiday shopping in London. And The East London Hotel makes a great base for exploring. We’ve got Shoreditch on our door step and speedy Tube links to the centre of town and Westfield Stratford City.
At Boxpark, refitted shipping containers are home to independent brands just perfect for present buying, like Sprayground backpacks, The Camden Watch Company and jewellers The Gold Gods. You can get there in 20 minutes on foot or 10 minutes in an Uber.
Hop on the Tube from Bethnal Green Underground Station and get off at Oxford Circus in the heart of London’s Christmas shopping action. Major high street shops line Oxford Street, where you’ll also find the department stores John Lewis and Selfridge’s. Regent Street is home to fancier brands, while the area around Carnaby Street is a mecca for independent boutiques.
With over 250 shops to choose from, Westfield Stratford City is the efficient Christmas shopper’s paradise. Mostly undercover, it’s also a pretty tempting option for when the British weather isn’t behaving itself. For family Christmas shopping, there’s nowhere better – the mall has four children’s play areas and you can hire a ‘kiddy car’ to keep your little ones entertained as you shop. Just 11 minutes from the hotel on the Central Line.
Each winter Hyde Park is transformed into a fairytale holiday destination complete over 200 wooden chalets inspired by traditional European Christmas markets. Buy handicrafts, jewellery, decorations, sweets and more (to 6 January). There are even more chalets at the South Bank, meaning you can do a spot of holiday shopping before getting your culture fix at one of the area’s world-leading arts centres (to 6 January). The elegant neighborhood of Marylebone hosts Cabbages and Frocks, a weekly fashion and food market throughout the year. Drop by during the holiday season to shop for unique gifts including accessories and jewellery from new designers, vintage clothing and hand-blown glass (Wed-Sat to 22 December).
